The Hunt Begins

Suddenly and without warning mysterious bounty hunters have started to appear in Blog Town making bold statements about Ben "Rooster Cogburn" Cole. These are three of the notorious "Anonymous Brothers" who are known throughout the west as violent "ambushers" and "back shooters."

They brag that they have come to silence the fastest pen west of the Mississippi.

They have called him a skunk and stated that he writes with too much flair for this neck of the woods. The plan is to "draw down" on his computer and cell phone and put "Rooster" out of business once and for all.

Can peaceful, little Blog Town survive?

What will happen? Only time will tell.

Yep, some pretty big guns have been seen hereabouts lately. Like an old gunfighter reunion.

Blog Town will weather it. Peace is knowing the houses are built on the rock, even if a few windows get shot out from time to time.

If this is not true, please provide the evidence.

Villa Rica is not Ben Cole.

Evidence: difference in writing style and difference in sense of humor. Blog Town has an element of the silly that Villa Rica and I have infused into it that is not indicative of Ben Cole's writings.

Add Phillips Lynn to the list of Ben Cole alter ego's.

The sense of humor is like Ben Cole's style.

Who is Villa Rica then?

For a group of people who denouce secrecy many of you have very very very vague profiles.

Ben Cole is SavedandSure Exhibit A.

In one of the comment sections of Ben's blog SavedandSure said...

"PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

May all readers of this well reasoned and carefully written blog..."

Notice the thrice repeated "Please."

Now elsewhere we find Baptist Dissenter, who we know for certain is Ben Cole (before he admitted it)said:

"Please...please...please send that resolution to the committee. I'm sure Tommy French is chomping at the bit to get our resolutions this year."

Although this might be circumstantial evidence it does point to similarities of vocabularly and style.

If savedandsure is Ben Cole then you find that Ben Cole is leaving comments on his own posts exclaiming how great and smart he is. Shameless self promotion?

Anonymous,

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the burden of proof rests with the one making the accusation. You did make an effort in your 5:57 AM post, but I would say it a weak argument. First, a thrice repeated "Please" is not exactly a unique mark of style. Second, there are differences in your two examples. In the first, each "Please" is in all caps and followed by an exclamation point. In the second, "Please" is written with conventional capitalization, and they are separated by an ellipsis. Now this proves absolutely nothing, which is what your example also proves.

It also seems a bit absurd for an anonymous poster to raise the issue of a blogger's identity. But even more absurd is the fact that I just spent the past few minutes writing a comment on this particular subject.
